Usually two screen layers are good for caps, but adjust the opacities to your specific picture.
- Create a new selective color adjustment layer. Go to Neutrals and put these settings:

Set this layer to Lighten.
- Create another new selective color adjustment layer. Match your settings to mine:

TUTORIAL ONE

Duplicate your base. Set it to Screen at 80% opacity.

Go to Image >> Adjustments >> Hue/Saturation. Set the Saturation to +60.

Duplicate your base again and drag it to the top. Set it to Soft Light at 50% opacity.

Create a new layer. Fill it with #D6F0FF and set this layer to Soft Light at 100% opacity.

Create another new layer and fill it with #B9FFE9, set to Color Burn at 100% opacity.

Create yet another new layer. Fill it with #F6D0FF and set this layer to Color Burn at 100% opacity.

Go to Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Selective Color. Have your settings like so:

Duplicate your base. Set it to Soft Light at 100% opacity.

Create a new layer. Fill it with #FFF9F6 and set this layer to Soft Light at 85% opacity.

Go to Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Curves. All you need to do is go to "Blue" and bring the bottom left-hand corner point all the way up. Set this layer to Soft Light at 100% opacity.

Go to Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Selective Color. Have your settings like so:

Create a new layer. Fill it with #F8EAE4 and set this layer to Multiply at 100% opacity.

Duplicate your base. Set it to Soft Light at 100% opacity.

Go to Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Curves. Have your settings like so (for each set of coordinates you'll just be dragging up the bottom left-hand corner point):

Set this layer to 90% opacity.

Go to Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Color Balance. You'll only be working with the midtones, make sure "Preserve Luminosity" is checked off, and have your settings like so:
-100, +100, -100
Set this layer to Soft Light at 100% opacity.

Create a new layer. Fill it with #E6E6E6 and set this layer to Color Burn at 100% opacity.

Merge layers and you're done! :)

Go to Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Levels. Have your settings like so:

Set this layer to 35% opacity.

Go to Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Hue/Saturation. Increase your saturation under "Master" to +50.

Create a new layer. Fill it with #D3FAFF and set this layer to Soft Light at 100% opacity.

Create another new layer. Fill it with #E5D5EE and set this layer to Color Burn at 100% opacity. Duplicate this layer.

Flatten your image and you are done! :D

If you use any of these tutorials, you must credit to galassia. And remember to play around with the settings on all of these! They don't work perfectly for every image out there. :) I'd appreciate comments, these took a while, haha. ;)

Here are two banners to help promote Galassia! I think 40 people have friended this journal, which is great! :) Let's try to get to 50 now! :D

There are also the tiny (but kind of ugly :\) promotion banners in the userinfo. If you place one of those, or these, in a post, your userinfo, etc. you'll get a custom icon! :) Just provide the image. (idea was stolen from Kiki @ Aardent ;))
I'm thinking of making some Notebook and Gilmore Girls icons. I was inspired after these banners. :)

So I'm sure you guys noticed the new header. When I got comments for friend requests, I got happy, so here's a tutorial! :) Maybe I'll make some icons later. ;)

1. Crop and resize an image to get your base.
2. Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Hue/Saturation. Put it anywhere from 25-55, it really depends on the image. For this icon, I put it to +45.
3. Create a new layer. Fill it with #FFDDFA set to Soft Light at 100%.
4. Create a new layer. Fill it with #FFF0B5 set to Color Burn at 80%.
5. Create a new layer. Fill it with #E0F2FA set to Color Burn at 100%.
6. Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Selective Color. Have your settings like so:
Reds:
-45%
-15%
+100%
+58%
Yellows
-100%
+15%
+100%
0%
Cyans:
100%
0%
-100%
0%
Neutrals:

Basically...it just seems like a waste of my time...since not many people even know about my journal and well, I get about three comments per post. Also, I've started posting a lot more at aardent so it's not like I'm going to stop making icons completely. But every now and then I'll have a batch or tutorial for you. ;)

Crop and resize your image to get the base.

Duplicate your base. Set it to screen at 55%.

Image >> Adjustments >> Hue Saturation. Increase the saturation to 100.
Make sure that this is not an adjustment layer!

Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Color Balance.
Midtones
-58 +35 +100
Shadows
+28 -21 -10
Highlights
-20 -2 -32

Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Gradient Map.
Choose the black fading into white gradient. Leave the boxes unchecked. Set that layer to soft light.
NOTE: FOR AN INTERESTING EFFECT WHICH I PERSONALLY LIKE, YOU CAN CHECK THE BOX "REVERSE" FOR THE GRADIENT MAP LAYER. THIS WILL CHANGE THE OUTCOME OF THE TUTORIAL COMPLETELY.

Layer >> New >> Layer.
Fill it with #A9AED5 on Color Burn at 50%.

Flatten your image and TADA! You're done.

Crop and resize your image to get the base.

Duplicate your base. Set it to screen.

Duplicate your base once again. Set it to multiply at 70%.

Create a new curves layer. Have your settings like so:

Set this layer to luminosity.

Duplicate the curves layer. Set it to color burn.

Layer >> New >> Layer.
Fill it with #FFFFFF, set on soft light.

Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Hue/Saturation.
Increase the saturation to +30.

Duplicate the base, drag it to the top and set it on soft light.

Flatten your image and you're done!

Crop and resize your image to get the base.

Duplicate your base. Set it to screen.

Layer >> New >> Layer.
Fill it with #FFDFBD, set on soft light.

Layer >> New >> Layer.
Fill it with #D6F7F8, set on color burn.

Layer >> New >> Layer.
Fill it with #FFEEFD, set on soft light.

Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Curves.
Do nothing to RGB.

NOTE: SOME IMAGES NEED TWO SCREENED LAYERS OR EVEN NONE AT ALL. PLAY AROUND WITH THE OPACITY UNTIL YOU FIND SOMETHING THAT YOU LIKE.

Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Hue/Saturation. Increase the Saturation to +35 and leave the others as is.

Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Curves. Have your settings like so:

Another very simple tutorial. The exact directions don't work well on all images, but if you play around with the settings, I'm sure it will look fine. ;)

Crop and resize image to get your base.

Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Brightness/Contrast

BRIGHTNESS +22
CONTRAST + 16

Create a new layer. Fill it with #FFE4ED on Color Burn, opacity at 50%.

Create a new layer. Fill it with #F6EDDE on Color Burn, opacity at 50%.

Duplicate your base and drag it to the top. Set it to Screen at 100%.

Go to Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Hue/Saturation. Increase the Saturation to +17 and leave everything else as is.

Create a new layer. Fill it with #EEEEEE on Color Burn, opacity 100%.

For an extra touch, copy and paste this texture and set this layer to Screen at 70%.

Flatten your image. TADA! You are done. :)

I'll take requests for my next batch of icons. They will not be only for you. I just would like to post icons which appeal to you. Post a high quality photo(s) or tell me where to find the images. Do not say foto_decadent, bijoue, fashionesque, etc. because that is way too general. Okay, get requesting! :) Also, request tutorials as well!

I'm making about 20 more Heather Marks icons right now, and 20 more of someone else later. I'll most likely post them tomorrow. :)

This is my first tutorial ever. It's quite simple with only five steps, but I like the outcome. :) It includes curves. It's made for Adobe Photoshop, but may be transferable. And remember to play around with the settings, because this won't work for every picture.

1. Crop and resize your image to get your base. This gorgeous Jessica Stam picture is our base for today!

2. Duplicate your base and set it to Screen, opacity being 50%.

3. Duplicate your base once again, drag it to the top, and set it on Soft Light, opacity being 50% as well.

4. Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Curves.
Your settings should be like so:
RGB
point one: 194 - 166
point two: 74 - 54

RED
point one: 166 - 178
point two: 83 - 54

GREEN
point one: 168 - 170
point two: 84 - 56

BLUE
point one: 168 - 170
point two: 54 - 68

5. Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Hue/Saturation.
Your settings should look something like this:
Hue

Saturation

Lightness
0

Then just flatten layers and you're done! My final product is right above. I hope this tutorial helps!
